Tisha B’Av this year

By Masorti Judaism 06th Aug 2024

What are we crying for this year?

Tisha B’Av is a 24-hour fast day where we mourn communal tragedies in Jewish history. We mourn the destruction of both Temples in Jerusalem, the expulsion from Spain in 1492, the massacre of medieval Jewish communities by Crusaders, and it is the day when Haredi Jews mark the Holocaust. We also mourn the day when Jews were expelled from England in 1290, which was the culmination of increasing antisemitism here. It is the day we share the pain of the injuries to our Jewish communities standing together in solidarity with each other.

The fast starts on Monday 12th August at 8.28pm and ends at 9.12pm Tuesday 13th.

For more about Tisha B’av, read Ismar Schorsch’s prescient dvar torah here:
