SHABBAT TIMES, LONDON

Every Masorti congregation belongs to a burial society which is open to new members and which looks after all arrangements including taharah – the ritual washing and dressing of the deceased – and the funeral. Our burials take place at the Western Cemetery near Cheshunt.

We encourage mourners to sit shivah, believing in the comfort this deeply valued practice can provide, while being sensitive to the varying wishes of different families. Both men and women are encouraged to say kaddish in all our congregations.

In the event of a bereavement, please contact your community. The rabbi or a member of staff will talk you through the practical steps you need to take, and offer you and your family pastoral support.

They will also be able to offer information about Jewish mourning traditions and practices, arrangement for the shivah as well as someone to lead the service, and will be able to send out details of your bereavement to the members of your community.

May the all-present God comfort you among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
