Masorti Judaism is the umbrella organisation for a network of 14 Jewish communities with a combined membership of over 4,500 people. We are a registered charity with an annual income of nearly £1.5m and a staff team of 10 people.
Our purpose is to develop flourishing communities, rooted in traditional practice and modern values, where people can find meaning by connecting to Judaism and to each other. Our strategic aims are to grow existing communities and build new ones, support young people, nurture Jewish innovation, and promote our ideas, including through the work of our Senior Rabbi.
Role description
- Developing and delivering strategic plans and projects in line with Masorti Judaism’s purpose.
- Managing the organisation’s finances, developing income streams and responding effectively to risks
- Fundraising, particularly with major donors
- Governance: ensuring that Masorti Judaism’s policies and procedures are in place and meeting the Charity Commission’s guidelines
- Representing the movement to key partners and stakeholders
- Supporting the leadership of our youth movement, Noam
- Leading the professional team and building an effective working relationship with trustees, rabbis, our constituent communities and other leaders
Reporting line:
The Chief Executive will report to the co-chairs of trustees.
Person specification:
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience and or aptitude for the following. We recognise that not every candidate will be able to meet all of these criteria and that they may not have held the most senior role within an organisation before. We would consider applicants proposing a part-time or flexible working approach
Experience:
- Developing and delivering successful strategic plans
- Leading high-performing organisations and teams
- Building a positive workplace culture with high levels of employee retention and satisfaction
- Fundraising, particularly major donor and trusts/foundations
- Budgeting and financial management
- Managing complex communal or organisational politics with diverse groups of stakeholders
- At least one of the following fields: community organising, community development, leadership development, volunteer management, education or youth work
- Operating in the Jewish community or charity sector
- Representing organisations or projects in the media
Knowledge of:
- Jewish belief, practice and culture
- The UK Jewish community and the Jewish world
- Charity governance and finance
- HR and employment law
- Safeguarding and child protection
Skills:
- Fundraising
- Strategic planning
- Project management and delivery
- Leading people – including facilitation and delegation skills
- Negotiation and stakeholder management
- Networking and relationship building
- Clear, powerful writing and public speaking

Salary range £56-70k pro rata; we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements.
