Hatch End Masorti Synagogue

HEMS is located in Hatch End and welcomes members from a wide geographic area which spans Harrow, Pinner, Harrow Weald, Stanmore and Northwood. We are a caring and inclusive community; each individual is valued whatever their level of Jewish knowledge or observance.

Our part-time rabbi, Paul Arberman, lives in Israel and spends one Shabbat per month and the High Holy Days with us, as well as providing constant pastoral and educational support to the community. We hold services every Shabbat morning and on occasional Friday nights in members’ homes, followed by a communal meal. We also organise regular study programmes and vibrant social activities for young people via Noam, the Masorti youth movement.

We are a constituent synagogue within Mosaic, a new community that has been established in the Pinner/Hatch End/Harrow area (for this reason the website link below leads to the Masorti page on the Mosaic website, not to a separate HEMS website). The other synagogues are Mosaic Reform, formerly Middlesex New Synagogue, and Masorti Liberal. formerly Harrow & Wembley Progressive Synagogue. Mosaic is a unique collaboration in Anglo-Jewry.

Like the other synagogues, HEMS continues to be responsible for its own religious services, and it has retained its distinctive Masorti character. While services are separate, there are many joint activities and events. The intention is that the new community should have its own building which will serve as a community centre. Within the building HEMS will have its own designated space in which to conduct services.
